I’ve written it. Sort of. Then I tried again. Multiple times. Now it is just sort of sitting there staring at me blankly. So blankly.
I have always found the “who I am” section for conferences, social media, and publications difficult. “Tell us about you.” Uh…well, what do you want to know?
When we meet someone in person or even on a call in relation to something, we have a clear common space that offers some help with conversation topics. We talk about things relevant to the situation, organization, common acquaintance, and we can pretty much guarantee that will evoke some kind of response since the other person is in the location and situation with us. Surely they have an opinion or information they can toss onto the conversation pile.
But what about when you cold call someone, which is what those autobiographical blurbs often feel like, and you have five sentences to convince that person you are exactly what they’ve been looking for and they need to invest time knowing you better? What do you want them to know then?
This is what I want you to know:
I’m Jerri Kelley. I’m a mother of two amazing young adults. I’m a writer and a speaker, both of which come naturally. I am also an encourager and listener, neither of which came naturally. However, I have intentionally learned those skills because I have experienced the power of their presence and the pain of their absence, and it is my mission to teach everyone how to utilize these superpowers because the world desperately needs kindness and compassion.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and because of my faith, I know every person on this planet is valuable. YOU are valuable, and if you don’t know that, I am going to tell you, and I will tell you again if you need to hear it again. I will tell you until you get it because you have every right to not only know you are valuable but to enjoy who you are created to be. I know you have a purpose, you are an answer, and you are necessary. I know someone is praying for God for an answer, and you are the one He is going to send because you are perfect for that.
My heart’s desire is to inspire and equip you to embrace the wonderful things about yourself…and the things you think you are horrible at, too…so you can live the amazing life you were created to live…so you can enjoy being yourself…and you can be a light for others.
Yeah, I want you to know that.
You might also be interested to know I am an advocate for pit bulls, a believer in the power of sweet tea/coffee and conversation, a lover of sunsets and fireflies, and a fan of high school football.
Oh, and I choose to be a redhead. I don’t know if that scares you or makes you feel at home, could be both, possibly doesn’t matter, but thought you should know.
And, I want you to know, I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you feel at home and stay.
🙂
